Import, Export and Customs

We import directly rather than buying through UK intermediaries. This page sets out how goods move from manufacturer to delivery point, and which party carries responsibility at each stage.

Origin to delivery point

Our Import Process

  1. 1

Supplier qualification — company registration, export licence where applicable, factory food safety documentation and product specifications obtained before a first order.

  2. 2

Order and specification — the purchase order records specification, pack and case configuration, shelf life at despatch, labelling requirement and packing standard.

  3. 3

Pre-shipment documentation — commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin where applicable, and batch documentation for the consignment.

  4. 4

Customs entry — goods entered to UK customs under EORI GB049114330000 through our appointed customs agent on the Customs Declaration Service, with commodity classification, duty and import VAT handled at entry.

  5. 5

Receipt and check — goods checked against the packing list for quantity, case integrity, batch codes and remaining shelf life. Discrepancies are raised with the supplier before stock is released for sale.

Labelling for the UK Market

Prepacked food sold in Great Britain must carry a label in English showing the product name, full ingredients list with allergens emphasised, quantity, date of minimum durability, storage conditions, and the name and address of the UK food business operator responsible for the food information. We agree labelling with the manufacturer before production and verify it on receipt. Packs that do not carry compliant UK information are not released for sale.

Export From the UK

We supply trade customers outside the UK from UK stock. Export orders are provided with commercial invoice, packing list and, where required, certificate of origin and preference documentation. Export declarations are made under our EORI number. The customer is responsible for import clearance, duties and any destination-market product registration unless the quotation states otherwise.
